I first saw a wild horse in a sacred slot canyon  in the Navajo Nation when I was hiking as a teen. I will never forget the power and agility of this animal leaping not 10 feet in front of me. Now I support those saving the remaining wild horses in America.

Wild horse notes: I attempt to capture the spirit of a subject in only a few brush strokes. For wild horses this comes down to finding a way to emote the freedom of movement they have. The legs driving while at the same time turning sharply brings this agility to the page.  Strong brush strokes in the legs show the power of this wild animal running free.

This unframed print is on 18″x 24″ translucent, technical, 100% rag, ph neutral, archival paper. It will be delivered to your door in a mailing tube ready to place into a pre-made or custom 18″x24″ frame. You can also frame larger, say a 20×26 if you mat this down to 18×24″.

Seeing a whale fluke up close will take your breath away. These whales have the agility of gymnast with the power of a locomotive.  I have seen whales breach the water surface  in the Puget Sound near Seattle as well as in wilds of Alaska.

Whale fluke notes: I attempt to capture the spirit of a subject in only a few brush strokes. For  a breaching whale it is all about the fluke. We just don’t see an entire whale in the wild. My representation of this iconic image incorporates a thick brush stroke for the whale body outline and a very thin outline of the fluke edge.  To give the appearance of this massive body I shaded the edge of the whales body. This painting shows what you can do with a good zen brush. Thin lines like the top of the fluke, strong wide strokes in the body, and shading on the side of the body.

Every year tens of thousands of visitors go to Africa just to see elephants in a non zoo setting. Preserved elephants now now walk for miles in government protected wildlife preserves. These swaying  massive trunks are like nothing else on earth.

Elephant notes: I attempt to capture the spirit of a subject in only a few brush strokes. After painting and repainting elephants, I found there are four elements that are essential to capturing the essence of an African elephant. The trunk, the ear, the eye and the tusk.  I use a bit of shading on the head and trunk to give the elephant more depth.  I added the cracked age lines to elephant’s ears and found this little bit of detail made the elephant more majestic.
